The Home Affairs Committee’s latest report on crime prevention is calling on the government to bring in more early intervention and prevention work to help young people at risk of offending.
They say that the move between primary and secondary school is a key time when young people can feel vulnerable and susceptible to criminal activity, but not enough is being done to support families at this time.
Committee members are calling for mentoring schemes to be introduced for those lacking support at home during this period.
Parenting support projects should also do more to target families at this time in a young person’s life.
