Creative activities for disadvantaged children could reduce youth unemployment

Providing creative activities for parents of disadvantaged five- to 12-year-olds could reduce youth unemployment in the long term, Creativity, Culture and Education has claimed.

Paul Collard, chief executive of CCE, told CYP Now that disadvantaged young people are too often excluded from working in the burgeoning creative industries.

"If we’re serious about narrowing the social divide then we need to make sure these jobs are open to everyone," he explained.

"Less well-off parents don’t always see the creative industries as a job opportunity for their children. We need to engage them when their children are young so that they understand it is."
