
The foundation predicted in June that 81,000 young people under the age of 25 will face homelessness by 2020. It is now calling for a renewed focus on helping young people enter the private rented sector.
Kathleen Kelly, programme manager at the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, said: “Those at the bottom of the market, young people and young families, are really going to struggle and we are concerned over whether they will be able to compete for housing.
“We are already seeing increasing official homelessness and there is no reason to expect that that won’t continue. We have got to keep a focus on how we look after the most vulnerable to make sure they can find and keep appropriate accommodation.”
