Councils to receive £4,000 for success on troubled families

Communities Secretary Eric Pickles has revealed the government will pay councils up to £4,000 of the estimated £10,000 cost of turning around a family's life.

The details form part of the framework for the troubled families programme, which is aiming to turn around the lives of 120,000 households with the most complex needs.

To secure a payment of £3,900 councils must ensure children in the family have an 85 per cent school attendance record and are subject to fewer than three exclusions from school.

In addition, they must achieve a 60 per cent reduction in antisocial behaviour across the whole family and a 33 per cent cut in youth offending. An additional £100 payment is made if progress is made to secure work for a family member.
