Council's 'inadequate’ Ofsted rating prompts DCS resignation

North East Lincolnshire’s director of children’s services has resigned after a damning Ofsted report identified “serious weaknesses” in the local authority’s support for vulnerable children.

Lisa Arthey has announced she is leaving the council after almost two years - the last eight months as director. 

“During that time significant inroads have been made into the changes that are required...the council will now look to continue the work that she has been integral in progressing,” a statement from the council said.

Arthey’s resignation comes after inspector’s rated children’s services as “inadequate” in all areas.

Inspectors, who visited the local authority in October, criticised the department over the planning and the effectiveness of its children in need and child protection plans, the quality and effectiveness of managerial oversight and supervision and its timeliness in carrying out safeguarding checks in private fostering and connected carers’ placements.
