Council's children's services has improvement notice lifted

1 min read Youth Work
The government has lifted its suspension notice on Blackpool Council's children's services while praising its "significant improvements".

The council’s child protection work has been under close scrutiny from the Department for Education since an Ofsted inspection in 2012 rated the service as inadequate, and a further inspection last year concluded that it requires improvement.

Children's minister Edward Timpson, who issued the council its improvement notice three years ago, has now written to Blackpool Council to lift it.

In the letter, Timpson said it was clear that the council has made “good progress” in addressing the issues that were highlighted initially by Ofsted’s report, and calls this a “significant improvement”.

“My officials have reported a strong sense of commitment, passion, and pride in Blackpool’s staff, and this has been evident for some time,” Timpson said.
