Council warns 27 children's centres at risk of closure

Up to 27 children's centres are at risk of closure as part of efforts to save £1.12m from the early years budget, a council has warned.

Warwickshire County Council has revealed that it intends to convert 12 of its current 39 children's centres into family hubs from April 2018, while the remaining 27 could be closed - a loss of 69 per cent of current provision.

The savings represent a cut of just under a quarter - 23 per cent - from the current children's centre budget of £4.8m.

Under the plans, family hubs would deliver services to children and parents of families aged from zero to 19, rather than the current zero-to-five age range of children's centres.

Three of the 12 hubs might also deliver such provision alongside adult services, through so-called "community hubs".
