Council regains control of children’s services after five years under trust model

Worcestershire Children First (WCF) was set up after a Department for Education-appointed commissioner recommended that Worcestershire County Council should loose control of the department in 2017.

The recommendation was made following an “inadequate” Ofsted rating received by the council in 2016.

In October 2019, WCF took over operational responsibility for the delivery of children’s services on behalf of Worcestershire County Council.

Prior to the transfer, Ofsted reinspected the council in 2019, leading to a “requires improvement” rating, which has since been uprated to “good” following a further inspection in May.

Ofsted’s most recent inspection found that “the WCF senior leadership team has contined to work effectively with political leaders and partners to improve children’s experiences.
