Queensferry High School and Portobello High School are the first schools in Scotland to implement the programme from US technology firm Yondr.

The initiative involves children locking their phones away in a pouch during the school day, alongside education around the policy.

The move is backed by findings from public policy researchers at Public First, showing strong support among both parents and teachers for removing phones from the school environment.

Eight in 10 parents said they support phone-free schools. Two-thirds (67%) of parents said such a policy would reduce distractions for pupils, and 62% believed it would help pupils focus better in class.

Seven in 10 teachers said they would back a phone pouch policy in their own school.
