Lincolnshire County Council said the move is one of a raft of measures under consideration as the council tries to save £42m from overall budget in 2016/17.
A total of 15 of the county's 48 children's centres are under threat – making up 31.3 per cent of total provision. The council said the centres at risk are all so-called "phase three" centres – which support the least deprived communities.
Patricia Bradwell, lead member for children's services at the council, said: "As the council has to find around £42m of savings next year alone, all service areas are seeing budget reductions for next year and beyond.
"As a result there are currently proposals for the reduction of funding for children's centres.
"If this is accepted then one of the options to be considered is to close phase three centres, which wouldn't affect those families and children in our most deprived communities, where there is a real need for support. This, and any other options, would need to go out to statutory consultation."
An online petition set up to fight the proposals has been signed by more than 1,400 people. The proposals are set to be discussed at a council meeting on 19 February.
Last month the Department for Education confirmed that a consultation into children’s centres, due to launch last autumn, has been delayed.
