More than 60,000 free laptops are still to be delivered to disadvantaged school pupils two months after the government launched its £85m education technology scheme.

Thousands of children missing out on technology

Latest figures published by the Department for Education show that since the £85m scheme was announced in April just 161,371 of 230,000 laptops have been sent to local authorities and multi-academy trusts across England.

The first batch of technology was dispatched on 18 May.

The government also promised to provide 50,000 4G wireless routers to disadvantaged pupils in Year 10 and other vulnerable children, however, latest figures show just 32,389 have been dispatched or delivered.
