A report by Travelodge has shown young people in Britain are charging their parents an average of £1 per household task to boost their pocket money.
They are using the extra cash to top up mobile phones and buy computer games, gadgets, clothes and accessories, the survey of 4,000 parents found.
Eight per cent of children even charged their parents for doing their homework.
Relationship psychologist Corrine Sweet said: "Today's children are more powerful and expect more than their parents' and grandparents' generations did."
The survey found pocket money on average was £2 per week, and children are increasing this by up to £10 by charging for chores.
