Children's workers report lack of training on neglect

More than one in 10 children's professionals have seen an increase in cases of suspected child neglect over the past year, but nearly one in five have had no training or information on what to do, a charity has warned.

The survey also found almost a third say they feel under more pressure to intervene in suspected child neglect cases than five years ago, with media attention on high-profile cases cited as the main cause for this.

Clare Tickell, chief executive of Action for Children, which surveyed nearly 2,000 pre- and primary school, nursery and health professionals for the research, said: "Frontline staff are key to identifying early signs of neglect and giving children and families long-term stable support to tackle the causes.
