
The party's manifesto for next month's general election sets out an intention to create more good school places and end the ban on setting up selective schools.
It states that, in addition to continuing with the free schools programme, building at least 100 new free schools a year, a Conservative government will "prohibit councils from creating any new places in schools that have been rated either ‘inadequate' or ‘requires improvement' by Ofsted".
Debbie Barnes, chair of the ADCS educational achievement policy committee said that while the association supports the sentiments behind the proposal, the national shortage of school places "adds an extra layer of complexity".
