Children's services company receives funding to improve SEN careers guidance

2 mins read Special Educational Needs
A social enterprise responsible for children's services across three local authority areas has received funding to develop innovative new approaches to careers advice for children with special educational needs (SEN), it has been announced.

Achieving for Children, which provides children's services across Kingston, Richmond, and Windsor and Maidenhead, will receive £105,000 to work across 13 mainstream and special schools, providing "next steps" personal guidance interviews to students with SEN in years 10 and 13.

The interviews will be designed to provide information on post-16 options and help young people explore longer-term aspirations. The programme will also provide professional development and training for careers development professionals and aim to "upskill" existing SEND co-ordinators.

The money is being provided from a £2.5m fund set up by the Careers & Enterprise Company to explore the effectiveness of different approaches to career guidance, and how they can be scaled up and integrated across the education system.
