A House of Lords ruling against Southwark Council in May stated that local authorities have a duty to provide care and support services to homeless 16- and 17-year-olds rather than housing services alone.
Centrepoint argues the ruling makes it even more important that housing departments are included in local planning around young people.
It is calling for the guidance for local authorities on children's trusts to be amended to make it mandatory for housing departments to be included on boards.
Current guidance on children's trusts allows housing to be involved on a board but does not require it.
A recent Centrepoint survey found that 11 out of 27 local authorities in London had housing representatives on their children's trust board.
