Charities win share of £15m youth homelessness fund

1 min read Housing and benefits
Seven youth homelessness projects are to gain a share of a new £15m government fund to help the most at-risk young people turn their lives around.

The Fair Chance Fund will pay for sustained housing, employment and education support for homeless 18- to 24-year-olds who are a priority for local authority accommodation but cannot be housed due to previous difficulties in supported housing or gang involvement.

Depaul UK, Fusion Housing and The Y are among the organisations to receive the funding, which will be available from January 2015.

Under the scheme, local authorities will be responsible for referring young people with the greatest needs to the youth homelessness projects.

The projects will then invest in services that help the young people secure sustained accommodation, gain qualifications and find employment.
