Blears said: "Young mayors are one way of giving real power to young people. Not only can they inspire a new generation to see politics as a powerful way of getting your voice heard but they also give young people the means to exert a genuine influence over council policies that matter to them."
There are currently young mayors in Lewisham, Tower Hamlets, Newham, Lambeth, Worthing, Eastbourne, Mansfield, Melton, Wyre Forest, Southend and North East Lincolnshire.
