The Special Olympics has received a 500,000 grant to help break down barriers in sport facing young people with learning disabilities.

The money has been handed out by Vodafone’s social responsibility arm the Vodafone Group Foundation and covers football projects for 14 to 25-year-olds over the next three years.

Six European countries will benefit from the funding: the UK, Belgium, France, Hungary, Romania and Turkey.

Projects covered aim to bring together young people with and without learning disabilities in teams, including training sessions and competitions.

UK paralympic athlete Dame Tanni Grey Thompson, who is an adviser to The Vodafone Group Foundation, said the project had, “the ability to drive forward social change and attitudes.”
