Casey granted seven-week extension for Rotherham CSE probe

1 min read
The government's troubled families tsar Louise Casey has been granted a seven-week extension to her investigation into Rotherham Council in the wake of the town's child sexual exploitation (CSE) scandal, it has emerged.

In September, it was announced that Casey would investigate the authority on its governance, its work with children and young people, and how it licences taxis and private hire vehicles.

She had been due to report to government by 30 November, but a letter published today by the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) reveals that she has requested an extension to the deadline.

The letter to Casey from Paul Rowsell, a deputy director at the DCLG, states that Communities Secretary Eric Pickles, when making Casey’s appointment, directed her to report the findings of the inspection by 30 November “or such later date as you may agree with the Secretary of State”.
