The report by the Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) charity warns that while youth convictions for all crimes have fallen by 72% over the last decade the proportion of black children in the criminal justice system has increased from 8% to 11%. For mixed ethnicity children the rise is from 3% to 10% over the same period.

Black young people are also five times more likely to receive custodial sentences for homicide offences. They are also more than twice as likely to be stopped and searched by police.
