Call for government to protect children's centres funding

1 min read Early Years
The core purpose of children's centres must be decided if their future is to be secured, a report has found.

A survey of 161 early years professionals and 46 parents by the National Children's Bureau (NCB) highlighted a series of suggestions for how service provision can be sustained.

Amid concerns that more children's centres could face closure in the future as funding cuts continue to impact on local government resources, respondents were asked how the long-term future of children’s centres could be guaranteed.

In addition to clarifying the core purpose of children's centres, respondents said long-term and stable funding streams should be identified.

They also want policymakers and practitioners to raise awareness of the positive outcomes of children’s centre services. It was also suggested that children’s centres could host businesses that would pay towards the upkeep of centres.
