British Association of Social Workers chair steps aside amid allegations

The chair of the British Association of Social Workers (BASW) has stepped down from his post pending investigation into allegations regarding his personal business affairs.

Tim Chittleburgh stepped down voluntarily in December 2009 after a "serious complaint" was made about his conduct.

In a statement on the issue, BASW said the matter was being investigated under the organisation's procedures for determining member's standards of conduct.

Chittleburgh strongly refutes the allegations made against him.

BASW said he is fully co-operating with its investigations.
