"I think your son would be better served by one of the other local schools." Or "We don't have any teachers that know about autism." Sound familiar? If you're a parent of a child with a special educational need (SEN), these sentiments probably do. Some parents seem pleased a school has been upfront about their unwillingness to support a young person with different needs. Others have been outraged. If politicians want to free schools up to deliver excellent education for all pupils, they need to develop league tables that value progress for all pupils. The Department for Education says this change is coming. The quicker it creates it, the less children will be written off before they get through the gates."
