scene of pride and celebration as the very best practice in services for
children, young people and families won special recognition.
The energy and excitement was palpable inside the opulent setting of the Grand Connaught Rooms in central London on the evening of 20 November, as guests prepared to find out the winners of the 2014 Children & Young People Now Awards across 21 categories.
Before the winners were revealed, 15-year-old Natalie Shay, a hugely talented singer-songwriter, performed her own material before the 460-strong audience.
Education and childcare minister Sam Gyimah delivered the keynote speech at the Awards, using his address to announce a series of measures to improve mental health support in schools. He said the Department for Education would work with the PSHE Association to develop guidance on how mental health issues are taught. In addition, a new departmental strategy will encourage experts to share best practice on school-based counselling services.
