
Five successful local authorities will be chosen to implement the Designated Family Judge (DFJ) trailblazer project from April next year until March 2025.
The project will see a designated delivery partner, which has not yet been named, work with the chosen councils to design solutions to reduce the average time from when a social worker applies for a family court order to any court proceedings concluding.
This reached an average of 44.5 weeks in 2021 despite a statutory timeframe of 26 weeks being introduced in 2014.
