Antisocial behaviour reduced in Cumbria

1 min read Youth Justice
Antisocial behaviour in Cumbria has dropped by nearly 50 per cent in some areas after the police joined forces with youth workers and young people.

"You normally see a spike in antisocial behaviour in the summer holidays," said Inspector Dave Willetts from Cumbria Constabulary's partnerships department.

But figures from the first half of the summer holiday show incidents of antisocial behaviour dropped by 545, compared with the same period last year.

In Windermere incidents fell by 49 per cent, in North Allerdale 40 per cent and in Brampton 32 per cent.

Although the figures refer to all incidents of antisocial behaviour, Willetts said the decrease was due to work by police officers and local youth groups.

He attributed the success to a range of initiatives, including police work in schools and extra patrols in problem areas. But linking up with youth workers has also worked.
