As we enter 2014, we still live in a deeply unequal society: one in four children live in poverty; more than one million young people aged 16 to 24 are not in employment, education or training; and many children and young people have low aspirations and low self-esteem.
A staggering 500,000 families in this country are "just coping", dropping in and out of crisis, with little hope of escaping from the vicious circle they are caught up in. As one of the richest countries in the world, we should be able to do better and with a new focus and ambition and a priority for investment as we come out of the economic crisis, 4Children believes we could do.
