Marion Davis made the comments after Mr Justice Foskett upheld the removal of Shoesmith from the position of DCS of Haringey.
Davis said while it was right for the public and politicians to take a strong interest in the welfare of vulnerable children, politics must not simplify complex matters.
"We must not allow raw politics to simplify or distort what are complex and serious matters concerning the safety of children, or to direct attention solely towards individuals, rather than the need for improvements in the systems that keep children safe," she said. "Directors of Children's Services across the country have witnessed the increasing attention paid by central government to the internal workings of local authority children's services departments, which has at times bordered on micro-management."
