Academic warning on primary education aims

Education
The education of young children may be in danger of becoming over-politicised, according to experts.

Researchers taking part in the independent Primary Review have questioned whether the curriculum places too much emphasis on the needs of society rather than the needs of individuals.

The concerns are among those raised in four reports looking at different aspects of the aims of primary education, which have been commissioned as part of the wider review. They are written by eight academics who are part of the 70 strong team of consultants working on the review.

The Primary Review will eventually publish 32 of these interim reports before stating its conclusions. It is based at the University of Cambridge, and supported by the Esmee Fairburn Foundation.
