Tampon Tax Fund

3 mins read Management Funding
The Tampon Tax Fund was introduced by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport in response to VAT of five per cent being imposed on sanitary products by the European Union (EU). Funds generated from the tax are allocated to charities working to improve the lives of girls and women.

In its 2019 general election manifesto, the Conservative Party committed to abolish the tax once the UK left the EU on 31 January 2020, as part of a wider government strategy to make sanitary products affordable and available for all women.

The Chancellor’s Budget of March 2020 confirmed the tax would end on 1 January 2021, meaning this will be the final round of funding that organisations can apply for.

Since its introduction in 2015, the Tampon Tax Fund will have provided more than £90m of funding supporting women and girls charities.

How much is available?

Applications should be for £350,000 or more, from organisations that can deliver impact across their chosen category and across multiple regions in one or more of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. In previous rounds, the minimum to bid for was £1m.
