People often think that bullying is the preserve of young people and that it only occurs during the school years. In this book, Dennis Lines challenges that stereotype and identifies various types of bullying in a number of different contexts.
Lines begins by defining what constitutes bullying, before analysing why, and in which environments, bullying tends to happen. He then looks closely at how to tackle bullies and how to treat their victims.
It is worth noting that bullying does not only exist in school, as society's perception may suggest, but has existed in primitive species since the dawn of animal existence.
It is interesting that Lines looks at the psychoanalytical dimension of bullying. Psychological factors are covered in Chapter 7, which explains the reasons why various groups of people in society target each other. He also looks at how the issue of dominance affects bullying in relation to domestic violence.
