The ability to increase rates paid to independent foster agencies in line with the rise in inflation has attracted providers

During the first five-year contract period, the rate of breakdowns fell markedly due to better placement commissioning

ACTION

A consortium of local authorities in the south and west of England has developed a new framework to streamline their purchasing of foster care from independent fostering agencies (IFAs).

The South Central IFA Consortium, set up by Southampton City Council in 2017, is made up of 16 local authorities, including Portsmouth, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, Bristol and Dorset, with the aim of working collaboratively to improve outcomes for children in foster placements.
