Greater London is the smallest of the English regions but is home to 7.52 million people - almost 15 per cent of the population of England. It has a high proportion of young adults - the 13 to 19 population is 552,405 (not including Bromley, for which data is not available).
Total expenditure on local authority youth services is £57,385,822 or 1.36 per cent of overall education spending, according to The National Youth Agency's Annual Audit.
London Youth, the federation that represents the interests of mainly voluntary youth clubs in the capital, has about 400 members, which serve more than 75,000 young people in the city. There are 1,251 full-time equivalent youth work staff and plenty of places to study for youth work qualifications.
