Action: Strengthening Families is an intensive early help service for parents who have had at least one child permanently removed from the family home and taken into care by the courts.

It was set up by Salford City Council in April 2012 as a direct response to the growing number of women repeatedly losing their children to the care system.

The key aim of the programme is to break the cycle of recurrent care proceedings and reduce the number of babies being removed from their birth families. Mothers and fathers in Salford who have had children previously removed from their care are eligible for the offer. It has also recently been extended to include first time parents who are vulnerable and at risk of their first child being removed, as well as parents who are currently in proceedings and expecting another child.
