Once Upon a Group: A Guide to Running and Participating in Successful Groups

It is good to see another book on working with groups, especially since the past decade has been dominated by work with individuals where young people are seen as in need of one-to-one help and advice. Once Upon A Group is a guide for people just starting out running and participating in groups; it's not an argument for group work or a text reclaiming the traditions of social group work with young people.

So, while I welcome it wholeheartedly, I'm still waiting for a revival of confidence and sense of purpose in engaging with young people through conversation, within their own friendship groups. I also yearn for a resurgence of faith in our ability to practice informal education in a variety of settings from clubs to the street.
