Interview: Catherine Doran, director of children's services, Harrow Council

3 mins read Social Care Interview
Engaging with health professionals is notoriously difficult. But Catherine Doran, the new director of children's services at Harrow Council, has seen things from the other side.

A trained social worker and former assistant director at Camden Council, Doran spent two years heading psycho-social services at Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital. She wants to use her experience to improve partnerships between local health and children's services professionals.

"I understand the complexity of the health world, I have a good background in CAMHS and am a trained family therapist," she explains.

At Great Ormond Street she managed and developed a multi-disciplinary team, while working as a clinical practitioner. Doran believes that model of working taught her a lot.

"You're working in an environment where you're with children and families, you see the tremendous suffering that children and their parents face, but also the great strength they bring," she says.
