Organisations supporting children, young people and families will judge their impact by how much they improve the lives of those they work with. Most see the difference they make to lives on a daily basis, but capturing the evidence to demonstrate that can be harder as many of the outcomes can be difficult to quantify or measure.

Despite these challenges, most funders and commissioners expect the organisations they fund or contract with to evaluate their work, and there are a range of methods and approaches used by the children's sector to show the impact of interventions. Practices in this field are evolving fast and getting it right can help providers improve what they do, deliver better outcomes for children and enhance the organisation's status.
