'Creative interventions' are therapeutic techniques that involve expression through art, music, drama, dance, reading and play. The central principle is that the experience of trauma is often held non-verbally. These highly sensory modes of intervention allow the safe release of the trauma experience and encourage the rebuilding of the affected personality. Expression of this sort is meant to empower a child and restore a sense of safety. The 15 chapters are in four sections: practice basics; interventions with individuals; interventions with families and groups and intervention as prevention. All but one of the book's authors are based in the US, which shows in the contextual background.
