
Most public sector organisations have undergone a recent process of transformation, aimed at reducing pressure on the public purse through a range of measures including streamlining models of care and digitising services. Some are now combining these concepts; processing a range of customer data, projecting the trends this analysis shows, and embedding the results in service delivery.
This is called predictive analytics and is being used successfully in a number of areas to understand population-level needs better, and forecast individual risks and outcomes. Predictive analytics is likely to significantly influence commissioning in the future, as it enables better targeting of services for the most vulnerable, using statistical modelling to predict risks before families' needs reach crisis-point.
