The Munro review of child protection, which has been under way since June last year, is looking at reforming frontline social work practice. One of the main findings of the review so far is that England's child protection system has become over-standardised and bureaucratic, characterised by a target-driven, tick-box culture, which has taken the focus away from engaging directly with children and families, and ensuring positive outcomes that meet the wide range of children's needs. Professor Munro has issued a call for evidence from professionals on how to remove the unnecessary bureaucracy that can obstruct those working in the child protection system.
