Mary Kellett and Heather Montgomery, both lecturers at the Open University, here add a valuable contribution to the analysis of children's lives, focusing on the relationship between theory, policy and practice.
This book brings together some of the leading thinkers on childhood issues within the UK, illustrating the main discussion points in childhood and youth studies, including significant global and local issues such as sexuality, consumerism and children's rights. It proposes an approach to practice whereby children are not simply seen as having a series of needs but are also in need of as good a childhood as possible. This is a similar approach to that adopted by The Children's Society's A Good Childhood Inquiry, which provides recommendations for policies that were seen to be of benefit to children.
