Although this gripping book is aimed at someone 10 years younger than myself, I still found myself drawn into the mystery, romance and hope in the story of 15-year-old heroine Adrien.
Before Wings tells the story of Adrien, who survived a brain aneurysm two years earlier and has to face the knowledge she could suffer another one with fatal consequences at any time.
The story follows her to her aunt's summer camp where she works over the holidays. While there she forms new relationships and receives messages from the spirit world, all of which help her to discover her place in life.
The story took me back to the feelings that I had as a teenager and will appeal to readers of all ages. Its message is that young people should be optimistic and enthusiastic about the future in the face of adversity, which is the underlying basis of the youth coaching course I am currently studying for.
