
The Centre for Expertise on Child Sexual Abuse (CSA Centre) estimates that one in ten children experience sexual abuse before the age of 16 in England and Wales.
The government recently published its long-awaited response to the recommendations in Professor Alexis Jay’s 2022 final report from IICSA (Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse). The inquiry highlighted the prevalence of child sexual abuse in British institutions, whilst the more recent National Safeguarding Review Panel report considered child sexual abuse in the family environment. The government’s response to these reports is a critical moment. If we seize it, we can shift to truly prioritise the safety of our children.
