It's got to be good news that the government has launched the Children's and Young People's Forum to develop the child health strategy. Indeed, the general trend in public services of seeking the opinion of the ‘customer' about their hopes, fears and experiences of being a consumer of services is positive too. If these services were run commercially their boards would take a great deal of notice of their customers' voices, or expect to go out of business.
The two august co-chairs of the forum - Christine Lenehan and Ian Lewis - will certainly have to drive the pace of their designated three meetings like charioteers if they are to harvest authentic views and present them to the Department of Health with a power and cogency that may make a difference. They will also have to ensure the voices of young disabled people are clearly heard, and sought, outside of these meetings.
