Prevention rather than cure: Talking about LGBT+ bullying in schools

When we create environments where all children feel welcome, safe and respected, they are much more likely to be engaged in both school and learning. However, despite being decades on from the repeal of Section 28, LGBT+ bullying is the most common form of bullying in UK schools

LGBT+ bullying tells LGBT+ children that it’s not ok to be themselves and teaches all children that difference is something to be ashamed of. This shaming leads to LGBT+ pupils being significantly more likely to experience anxiety and depression. However, schools that are LGBT+ inclusive significantly improve the wellbeing of all students, not just those who are LGBT+ by teaching children that being who you are is wonderful.
