Lib Dem Conference: A warm welcome to Glasgow?

1 min read

Hello, good evening and welcome. Myself and the Kids Count team have arrived at the Liberal Democrat conference in Glasgow. With high hopes of channeling the late and great David Frost we're poised to ask all the hard-hitting questions of those who should have some answers.

David Frost, we may not be yet but what an amazing opportunity to practice our interviewing skills and to pose the youth perspective to one half of the coalition government.?

Since the Lib Dems are seen as a party more young-people friendly, I'm interested to see if the youth voice is noticeable here and if youth issues are at the centre of their agenda.?

In his conference opening speech Nick Clegg mentioned specifically youth unemployment saying “young people find themselves on a scrapheap without opportunities”. It's a struggle we know we need to tackle so I'm looking forward to seeing actual solutions they pitch to this rising youth issue. Watch this space...?

Young people have also been at the forefront of the media lately in terms of cyber bullying following some awful tragedies. I want to see reactions to this topical debate and what can be done to tackle it so no more young people are lost at the hands of cyber trolls. As someone who's experienced the effects it can have, I know online safety is crucial for young people.?

Armed with my own experiences as a young person and my media pass I'm ready to find some answers. But not before I experience a wee bit of Scottish culture and the friendly atmosphere here.?

I'm off to find some answers, until next time...?
