Cabinet reshuffle

3 mins read

Well, the mists have cleared on the reshuffle, and we can now start to think about what it all means. Nicky Morgan is a relatively unknown quantity, though her voting record is impeccably in line with government policy.

She is apparently a Christian who opposes gay marriage, and that was why she had the “and equalities” phrase removed before her last appointment – it has now been included again and it will be interesting to watch what she says and does about those issues. And it's not entirely reassuring that she attended a private school before going on to St Hugh's, Oxford. But, truth be told, the changes are relatively minor – Edward Timpson seems to be staying, David Laws is the token Liberal Democrat, Nick Gibb has rejoined the team after two years in the wilderness. And there just isn't time to do very much in any direction before the General Election, whether it is pushing the Gove agenda further or rolling it back.
