The Education Select Committee has released its report on its inquiry about services to young people. Changemakers offers its views on the key recommendations.

No service is universal; we believe that better-off parents will ‘go private’ and simply opt out of provision funded by the state. We agree that services should be pushed towards open access, as we need to avoid a two tier system at all costs. Services need to be opened up to people from different backgrounds, who should be encouraged to participate to increase social mixing. This type of service will pick up young people experiencing certain difficulties and challenges, but targeted services are vital for those with more complex needs.
