Name: Ourside Youth Centre
Provider: Ourside Youth Association
Summary: Young people have worked with youth workers, funders and contractors to create new inclusive toilets at Ourside Youth Centre that better meet young people’s needs.
Young people at Ourside Youth Centre in Evesham have led their own project to create new toilet facilities that promote inclusion and reflect their views on gender identity.
Ourside in the West Midlands supports young people in the local community through a regular programme of youth work activities, with a commitment to being inclusive and led by young people.
The project began with a group of young people who attend the centre discussing their gender identity and sexualities in their youth group. Through these conversations, they recognised that toilet facilities were a key space that created difficulties for young people who are exploring their identities, with some experiencing toilet anxiety or not feeling safe in communal toilet spaces.
